Student Ambassador Visit to China - Easter 2024
On 23 March Student Ambassadors from five partner schools set off from various UK airports for a week-long visit to partner schools in China – plus some sightseeing!
Our group came from:
-
Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Coventry
-
Duchess Community High School, Alnwick
-
John Spence Community High School, North Shields
-
Ponteland High School, Newcastle
-
The Wensleydale School, Leyburn
The Ambassadors ranged from 14 – 17 years old and were accompanied by teachers from their schools.
Our Chinese partner schools are all in Hebei Province – Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Cangzhou, Qinhuangdao and Tangshan – and include Primary, Middle and High schools. Student Ambassadors spent one-to-one time with Chinese students, talking about their different home and school lives and forging some ongoing friendships.
They also practiced traditional Chinese skills including calligraphy and dumpling-making. The host schools also put on performances of Peking Opera and traditional Chinese dance and music. As well as a whistle-stop tour of Hebei, we also found time for the students to experience the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Old Dragon’s Head where the Great Wall of China reaches the sea.
Watch the video below to see some of the highlights of this unique trip:
‘The experience was truly eye-opening as the education system in China is so different and the country is so rich in history and culture’.

‘I found this adventure invaluable for both personal and professional growth, and I hope that in the future more of our staff and students will have the chance to enjoy similar experiences’.
